APPSC 2026: 30 notifications, one common Paper I, and what the real papers ask

Between 15 September and 16 October 2026 APPSC issued 30 recruitment notifications with nearly 2,400 provisional vacancies, from Group 2 (686 posts) to single posts. 25 of them print the same Paper I, General Studies & Mental Ability, so one preparation serves most posts. The only exam date announced so far: Group 1 screening, 24 January 2027.

What the common Paper I really asks

Paper I: 150 questions, 150 minutes, 150 marks, Degree standard, 1/3 mark off for each wrong answer, with the same 10 syllabus items in 25 notifications. The shares below come from the 2022 and 2025 ASO Paper I sittings with final keys (294 counted questions); the older-scheme 2019 paper is left out.

  1. Current events (international, national, AP)15%
  2. History of India, with focus on AP and the national movement14%
  3. Geography of India, with focus on AP13%
  4. Indian economy and planning12%
  5. Logical reasoning and analytical ability11%
  6. Sustainable development and environmental protection9%
  7. Data analysis (tables, graphs, mean, median, mode, variance)8%
  8. General science, S&T and IT7%
  9. Other topics11%
Share of questions by topic in recent APPSC Paper I papers.
  • Current events, history and geography are about 42% of the paper, and history and geography carry an AP focus.
  • Polity jumped from 3 questions in 2022 to 16 in 2025: prepare governance and e-governance, not only articles.
  • 2025 was easier (87 easy of 145) but had 23 match-the-following and 9 multi-statement items; practise those formats under time.
  • Reasoning and data analysis gave 30 questions in 2022 and 25 in 2025. Calculators are banned, so practise mean, median, mode and variance by hand.

The process

How APPSC recruits

  1. One common Paper I across most posts

25 notifications print the same 10-item Paper I, General Studies & Mental Ability: 150 questions, 150 minutes, 150 marks, Degree standard. Paper II (and Paper III, if any) is the post's own subject. Group 1 and Group 2 have their own General Studies papers.

  2. Single-level exam for most posts; screening and mains for Group 1 and Group 2

28 of the 30 notices have a single-level exam with no screening test. Group 1 has screening (two papers, 120 questions each) on 24 January 2027, a descriptive Mains of five papers and a 75-mark interview. Group 2 has screening and a two-paper objective Mains.

  3. Negative marking and minimum marks

Every 2026 notice that states a marking rule takes off 1/3 of the question's marks per wrong answer (0.33 on a 1-mark question); a blank costs nothing. Minimum: 40% of the aggregate (OC, sports persons, ex-servicemen, EWS), 35% (BC) or 30% (SC, ST, PBD).

  4. CBRT on a computer, OMR on paper, English as the reference

Single-level exams are online CBRTs; scores from more than one session are normalised. Group 1 and Group 2 screening tests are offline OMR tests, where wrong bubbling or whitener invalidates the sheet. Papers are in English with a Telugu translation; English prevails.

  5. OTPR, applying and the 7-day correction window

Fill your One Time Profile Registration (OTPR) on psc.ap.gov.in first. An application counts only after Save & Submit and a successful fee payment. Corrections are open for 7 days after the last date at Rs 100 each; name, fee, age relaxation and community cannot change.

  6. Eligibility date and age

The detailed notification's date is the crucial date for eligibility. Most 2026 notices count age on 01/07/2026, usually 18 to 44 (DSP (Civil) 21 to 30; Forest Range, Section and Beat Officers 18 to 30; AMVI 21 to 36), with 5-10 years' relaxation.

  7. Qualifying tests: CPT, languages, walking test

Most posts add a 100-mark Computer Proficiency Test for shortlisted candidates. Group 1 Mains, Horticulture Officer and Forest Range and Section Officers have English and Telugu tests; forest officers add a walking test and medicals. All are qualifying: pass, but no rank marks.

  8. Certificates and local status: get them ready before you apply

BC Non-Creamy Layer and EWS certificates must be issued on or after 01/04/2026 and not later than the closing date. You are local where you studied four consecutive years up to Class VII. For district posts, 95% of vacancies go to local candidates.

How we build it

Made from real APPSC papers

APPSC exam questions

Is there one exam for all these posts?

No. Each notification has its own exam, and only the Group 1 screening date (24 January 2027) is announced. But 25 notifications use the same Paper I syllabus, so one Paper I preparation counts for all of them.

How much do I lose for a wrong answer?

One third of the question's marks. In a 1-mark Paper I question that is 0.33. An unanswered question costs nothing.

Can I write the exam in Telugu?

Objective papers are set in English and translated into Telugu, so you can read either; if they differ, English is used for valuation. In the Group 1 Mains you write all five papers in one medium: English, Telugu or Urdu.

Is the Group 2 screening test the same as the common Paper I?

No. Group 2 screening has five 30-mark parts, including Indian society, which the common Paper I lacks; Paper I adds general science, polity and governance, economy and environment. Current events, history, geography, reasoning and data analysis overlap directly.

Which posts have a qualifying English or Telugu test?

Group 1 Mains, Horticulture Officer, Forest Section Officer and Forest Range Officer have English and Telugu tests, and Forest Beat Officer an essay. You must pass them, but their marks do not count for your rank.

Are old APPSC papers useful?

Yes, if they follow today's scheme. The 2022 and 2025 ASO Paper I papers match the 2026 syllabus; the 2019 paper does not. Some official answers are doubtful, so check final keys.

Which certificates should I arrange now?

Study certificates for Class I to VII (for local status), your community certificate, and for BC and EWS a Non-Creamy Layer or EWS certificate issued on or after 01/04/2026 and before the closing date.

Who checks Medha's questions?

Each question is written by one AI agent, checked by a second, and random samples are audited by three more reviewers. No human subject expert has reviewed these stages yet; doubtful-key questions stay out of tests until checked.
