A 12-week plan for Forest Beat Officer

5 phases, week by week

Assumes an Intermediate pass starting late October 2026, about 4 hours a day plus a daily walk. The exam date is not announced; if sooner, shorten each phase.

  1. Week 1

Apply, check the physical standards, find your gap

    • Apply by 5 Nov 2026; check district, local status and community in OTPR.
    • Take the 2025 Paper II in 100 minutes; score science and maths separately.
    • Start walking 8-10 km a day; get BC or EWS certificates dated after 01.04.2026.
  2. Weeks 2-4

Paper II maths: arithmetic and algebra (22 questions in 2025)

    • SSC arithmetic: HCF/LCM, divisibility, unit digits, factors, logarithms.
    • Commercial maths and algebra: CI minus SI, discount, time and work, quadratic roots, sets.
    • 30 timed problems a day; 1 hour of Paper I history daily.
  3. Weeks 5-7

Paper II science, and the rest of the maths

    • Universe and space, ISRO missions to Chandrayaan-3; chemistry by reactions, not names.
    • Biology and energy from Class 8-10 textbooks; the 48 plants as a table.
    • Maths: trigonometry with Inter 1A extras, geometry, mensuration, mean, median and mode.
  4. Weeks 8-10

Paper I, current events and the essay

    • Geography of India and AP, polity and economy with rural development, disaster management.
    • Current events of the last 12 months, with forest, wildlife, climate and space news.
    • Three timed 45-minute essays on forest themes, in the one language you choose.
  5. Weeks 11-12

Full mocks, revision and the qualifying tests

    • Six full mocks (three per paper); in Paper II do science first.
    • Revise formula sheet, reaction list and 48-plant table every second day.
    • Weekly 20-25 km walk (men) or 14-16 km (women); practise Word and Excel for CPT.

Mistakes that cost marks

5 traps seen in the real papers
  • Preparing for the common 150-question Paper I: this one is 100 questions with its own 8-item syllabus.
  • Treating 'SSC standard' as the maths ceiling: 9 of 50 maths questions in 2025 were Intermediate first-year level.
  • Guessing on faulty questions: 3 of 7 doubtful 2025 answers had wrong figures or options. Skip them at -0.33.
  • Learning the syllabus spelling of botanical names; several are misprinted (Nyctanthus for Nyctanthes, Achorus for Acorus).
  • Leaving the walking test to the end: missing 25 km (men) or 16 km (women) in 4 hours ends selection.
