Mistakes that cost marks

5 traps seen in the real papers
  • Guessing freely in Paper II: three wrong answers wipe out one right answer's 2 marks.
  • Treating Paper I as filler. It is 150 of 450 marks, and with one post a few marks decide it.
  • Studying only coal mining. Item 7 is underground metal mining.
  • Skipping geology items 1-3: the syllabus asks for field geology and borehole data interpretation.
  • Leaving mine legislation to the last week. The syllabus names no Acts, so cover them yourself.
