What Industrial Promotion Officer really tests

Biggest block: Paper I: Current events (15%). How questions are asked.

78 zonal posts under APPSC notification 24/2026 for any B.E./B.Tech graduate, with no screening test or interview. Merit comes from two 150-mark papers with a 1/3 penalty per wrong answer, and Paper II spans six subjects, so breadth decides.

Based on Paper I only: the common Paper I in APPSC's 2022 and 2025 Assistant Statistical Officer recruitments (final keys, 294 questions). No previous Paper II was analysed.

  • Polity jumped from 3 questions in 2022 to 16 in 2025; do not skip it on the basis of one old paper.
  • 2025 was easier than 2022 (87 easy questions against 49), so results depend on accuracy more than on hard questions.

A 14-week plan for Industrial Promotion Officer

4 phases, week by week

Assumes an engineering graduate with about 4 hours a day; the exam date is not yet notified. Start with the Paper II subjects outside your branch.

  1. Weeks 1-3

Paper II industrial management and entrepreneurship (subject 4)

    • Management basics: Taylor, Fayol, Maslow, Herzberg, McGregor; organisation types and forms of ownership
    • Solve break-even, EOQ, CPM and PERT problems by hand; MSME, DIC, ZED, start-ups
    • Paper I: Indian National Movement and modern AP history
  2. Weeks 4-6

Paper II industrial engineering and computer science (subjects 5 and 6)

    • Method study and time study; solve Halsey, Rowan and Emerson incentive problems fast
    • SQC control charts and sampling; computer basics, networks, operating systems and databases
    • Paper I: polity and governance with e-governance, economy and planning
  3. Weeks 7-10

Paper II mathematics, physics and chemistry (subjects 1 to 3)

    • Use one diploma (SBTET first-year) textbook per subject as the level guide
    • Maths arithmetic and mensuration, physics formulae, chemistry problems, water technology and polymers
    • Paper I: geography, environment and disaster management, general science, daily reasoning sets
  4. Weeks 11-14

Full mocks, error log, current events and the computer test

    • Two full mocks a week for each paper; error log by subject
    • Revise 12 months of current events; do every numerical by hand (calculators banned)
    • Twice a week, 30 minutes of typing and Office practice for the Computer Proficiency Test

Mistakes that cost marks

5 traps seen in the real papers
  • Studying only your own branch. Paper II is not a branch paper; everyone meets diploma chemistry.
  • Treating 'diploma standard' as easy. The spread is wide (six subjects, 42 units) and the problems need speed.
  • Mixing up the quality names: Crosby, Deming, Juran, Ishikawa, Taguchi and Shingo. Learn one idea for each.
  • Relying on a calculator. Para 15.5.1 bans calculators, so practise hand calculation.
  • Guessing blindly. A wrong answer costs 0.33, so guess only after you rule out at least one option.
