What AEE really tests

Biggest block: Paper I: Current events (15%). How questions are asked.

APPSC notification 27/2026 offers 503 Assistant Executive Engineer posts in six AP engineering departments, with one online exam and no screening test. Three 150-mark papers: common Paper I (General Studies), Papers II and III in your branch (300 of 450 marks), with 1/3 negative marking.

Based on Weights cover Paper I only, from APPSC's common Paper I in the 2022 and 2025 Assistant Statistical Officer exams (294 questions); no AEE Paper II or III was analysed.

Paper I

  1. Current events15%
  2. History of India and AP14%
  3. Geography of India and AP13%
  4. Economy and planning12%
  5. Reasoning11%
  6. Sustainable development and environment9%
  7. Data analysis8%
  8. General science and S&T7%
  9. Polity and governance6%
  10. Disaster management5%
Share of each paper's questions, by topic, in the real papers.

Difficulty in the real papers

  • Easy 46%
  • Medium 39%
  • Hard 15%
  • History, geography and current events were about 42% of Paper I (124 of 294), more than twice reasoning and data analysis (55).
  • Reasoning and data analysis gave 25 to 30 questions a paper; data analysis means mean, median, mode and variance from tables and charts.
  • Polity rose from 3 questions in 2022 to 16 in 2025, so one old paper is a poor guide.
  • Civil and Mechanical syllabi are almost word for word the 2018 AEE syllabus, so old material fits; old Paper I guides do not.

How questions are asked

  • Paper I: mostly direct one-line questions (112 of about 147 in 2022, 77 in 2025)
  • Paper I 2025: 23 match-the-following and 9 multi-statement items
  • Paper I: numerical items were 20 in 2022 and 7 in 2025
  • Papers II and III: no previous paper analysed; objective, degree standard

A 16-week plan for AEE

4 phases, week by week

Assumes a B.E/B.Tech graduate with about 5 hours a day; the exam date is not notified, so if it comes sooner, keep the order and shorten each phase.

  1. Weeks 1-4

Paper II core, with 1 hour a day of Paper I history

    • Civil/Mechanical: SFD and BMD, bending and torsion equations, Mohr's circle, Euler's load, thin cylinders
    • Fluid mechanics: manometers, Bernoulli, Darcy-Weisbach losses, specific speed of turbines and pumps
    • Electrical: RL/RC transients, three-phase power, two-wattmeter method, loop tests, DC machines
  2. Weeks 5-10

Paper III in your post code

    • Civil: structures and design, soils, water resources, environmental, transportation, surveying, PERT/CPM
    • Codes 2 and 6: environmental studies first, then engineering drawing, basic electrical, computers
    • Mechanical: thermodynamics, heat transfer, machine design, manufacturing; Electrical: transformers, motors, power systems
  3. Weeks 11-13

Close the gaps and finish Paper I

    • One-page sheet per unit of formulas and IS code values; revise it weekly
    • Paper I: AP and India geography, economy, polity, disaster management, science
    • Daily reasoning and data analysis set; current-events file for the last 12 months
  4. Weeks 14-16

Full mocks and the error log

    • A full 150-question, 150-minute mock per paper, at least twice a week
    • Keep an error log; if wrong answers cost over 5 marks a paper, stop guessing
    • CPT: 30 minutes of typing and Office practice, three times a week

Mistakes that cost marks

5 traps seen in the real papers
  • Preparing the wrong Paper III: codes 2 and 6 write a mostly environmental studies paper, not the Civil one.
  • Mechanical graduates skipping Paper II's dams, spillways, hydrographs and pondage.
  • Using old Paper I guides: the bifurcation unit is gone; history and geography now focus on AP.
  • Neglecting Paper I: it is 150 of 450 marks, the same for every candidate.
  • Blind guessing: with 1/3 negative marking and four options, guess only after ruling out one option.
