A 12-week plan for Hostel Welfare Officer Grade II

5 phases, week by week

Assumes a B.Ed. or D.Ed. graduate with about 4 hours a day: 2.5 on Paper II, 1.5 on Paper I. Exam date not announced.

  1. Week 1

    Apply and find your gap

    • Submit by 29 Oct 2026; check district, local status and community in OTPR first.
    • Take the 2025 HWO Paper II in 150 minutes, scoring -0.33 per wrong answer.
    • Take one common Paper I under time; count the reasoning questions you finish.
  2. Weeks 2-4

Paper II Part B: Educational psychology (about 54 questions)

    • Development: Piaget's stages with ages, Erikson's eight stages, Freud, Vygotsky's ZPD, Kohlberg.
    • Learning: one table per theorist (Pavlov, Thorndike, Skinner, Hull, Kohler, Tolman, Gagne, Bandura).
    • Individual differences, projective vs non-projective tests, and statistics (mean, median, SD, correlation).
  3. Weeks 5-6

Paper II Part A: Philosophy, thinkers and sociology (about 30 questions)

    • Five schools in one grid: aims, curriculum, method, teacher's role and key name.
    • Indian thinkers (Gandhi, Tagore, Vivekananda, Aurobindo, Krishnamurti): quotations and books by heart.
    • Sociology: agencies of socialisation, Ogburn's cultural lag, Cooley's looking-glass self, social mobility.
  4. Weeks 7-9

Paper II Part C: Trends in education (about 60 questions)

    • Universal elementary education: Articles 21A, 45 and 46, RTE Act 2009, SSA, Samagra Shiksha.
    • Commissions and policies with years and chairmen, Wood 1854 to NEP 2020.
    • Adult and lifelong education, teacher education (NCTE, SCERT, DIET) and value topics.
  5. Weeks 10-12

Paper I, current affairs and full tests

    • Current events of the last 12 months, AP first, plus education news.
    • Solve the 2022 HWO Paper II; revise every fact it shares with 2025.
    • Full mocks of both papers in 150 minutes each; practise the APPSC CBT mock.

Mistakes that cost marks

5 traps seen in the real papers
  • Mixing up look-alike options: thinkers for one quotation, Piaget's stage names, Erikson's stage numbers.
  • Learning the theory but not the person: 'who said / wrote / founded' items doubled to 24 in 2025.
  • Memorising a doubtful key: some APPSC keys differ from standard texts (Article 45 vs 21A). Learn the textbook answer.
  • Skipping Part A because it was small in 2022. It jumped from 11 to 42 questions in 2025.
  • Ignoring Paper I. It carries the same 150 marks and has 25-30 reasoning and data questions that need practice.

APPSC Hostel Welfare Officer Grade II questions

What is the last date to apply?

29 October 2026, 11:59 PM, online at psc.ap.gov.in through your OTPR login. Corrections are allowed for 7 days after the last date at Rs. 100 per correction, except name, fee, age relaxation and community.

It is a district post, and you write the exam in the district you apply for. 95% of each district's posts are for its local candidates, so check Annexure I for your district's posts.

No. The exam is single-level with no screening test, and selection is on merit in the written exam (300 marks). Shortlisted candidates must then pass the qualifying Computer Proficiency Test, which does not add to merit.

Which books cover Paper II?

APPSC names no books. The 2022 and 2025 questions were at the depth of the Telugu Akademi B.Ed. and D.Ed. textbooks on perspectives in education, psychology of learning and contemporary issues, and asked mostly definitions, names and years.

What is the minimum mark to be considered?

An aggregate of 40% for OC, sportspersons, ex-servicemen and EWS, 35% for BC and 30% for SC, ST and PBD. Reaching it does not by itself mean selection.
