Mains Paper I · 1 AP Social & Cultural History · 1.11 Asaf Jahis of Hyderabad
1.11.3 Nizam's Hyderabad: jagirs, sarf-e-khas, vetti and society
The Nizam's state rested on a feudal land system — government (diwani) land, the Nizam's own sarf-e-khas estate, and jagirs and samsthanams of nobles and chiefs — in which deshmukhs and doras extracted forced labour (vetti), until peasant revolt and the 1949 abolition of jagirs ended it.
