2 Sociological Foundations of Education · 2.2 Equality and welfare in education

2.2.1 Equality of opportunity and education of disadvantaged learners

Equality of educational opportunity means every child, whatever caste, class, sex, religion, language, region or disability, gets the same real chance to enter school, stay, learn and succeed; because children start unequal, the State gives extra help to the disadvantaged (Art. 15(4), 46), which the Kothari Commission called the main social aim of education.
